Na Li struggled with the hot conditions on Monday in Melbourne, but was still able to get the better of Ksenia Pervak and earn a berth in the second round of the Australian Open. The French Open champion will be pleased with her result. Though she seemed to be tiring, she still recorded a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win.

“It is not easy to play in so heated air,” admitted Li after her battle with Pervak. “I could not even breath on the court, especially in the second set. But I am lucky that I won so easy in the second.” She’ll have to hope that the she deals better with the climate on Wednesday when she meets Olivia Rogowska in the second round.

Li’s promising start to 2012 should be encouraging, but she hasn’t let it get to her head. “This week is another story,” explained Li. “What I did in Sydney and Perth was not important. This is bigger and more important. I wish I do better this year, but it is far away.”

“I didn't play good tennis in the last half year. After the French Open, my life changed a lot and I was not used to it. But now I am back. I'm feeling more tough, not like the last half of last year when I was losing all those matches. I'm happy with what I am doing right now.”
