Li needed just over an hour to defy Rogowska, who admitted after the match that she’d been startled by the pace at which Li was hitting the ball at from the baseline.
“I'm feeling always good to come back to Rod Laver Arena,” revealed Li. “Especially when you had a good memory here last year. This year is much better than last year - more fans come to watch me play, not only from China but all over the world.”
“Playing against Rogowska is as easy as the scores looked like, I had some hard fight games today,” added the French Open champion. “She played good tennis, but she is young, she could not control the play when she had to do that.”
Li will now take on Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain. Medina Garrigues is a tough opponent, and she demonstrated this in her 6-1, 6-0 win over Olga Govortsova. Li will be the favourite here, but we could be in for a close match.
