Jelena Jankovic will be up against British youngster Laura Robson in the first round of the Australian OpenYou can watch and bet on Jankovic v Robson live for free at bet365 > live tennisThirteenth seed Jelena Jankovic is scheduled to take on Laura Robson in the first round of the main draw of the 2012 Australian Open. The Serb, who is one of a number of players that could prove to be a dark horse here, will be looking to get the match finished quickly. That said, the 17 year-old Brit will be fired up for this meeting.
Robson had been doubtful of her participation in Melbourne, having been injured in November with a stress fracture in her left shin. She was still on crutches last month. Any debate about her sharpness ahead of this tournament seems to be irrelevant though, as she booked her place in the main draw with a final qualifying round win against Olga Savchuk (6-1, 7-6).
“As I didn't even know if I'd be fit to play here, I'm so pleased to have qualified,” remarked Robson after beating Savchuk. “I had only been playing points in practice five days before my first match in the qualifying tournament. I'm very happy with how I'm playing and, hopefully, my form will continue to get better.”
British fans will be hoping that Robson can defy the odds with a win here, but the odds are heavily in Jankovic’s favour. The former world No. 1 is likely to progress in straight sets.
