Lleyton Hewitt has gotten the better of long odds this week to reach round four of the Australian Open. The home favourite entered this tournament as one of the main contenders on a number of occasions in years gone by, but now, as the elder statesman of Australian tennis, his progress in the competition is perhaps a little more surprising. He’s set to face Novak Djokovic in round four, in a match that very few would back him to win.

When asked if he has a chance of doing the impossible against the ‘Serbinator’, Hewitt replied, “Yeah, I'll prepare as well as possible again.  I'll do all the right things.  Yeah, he's the No. 1 player in the world for a reason at the moment.  I'm going to enjoy going out there and having a crack.”

Hewitt had to put in a big effort to edge past Milos Raonic in round three, and his final service game in which he served for the match took a long time to finish. When facing break point, the Aussie produced a fierce serve that fizzed past the young Canadian.

“I wasn't thinking about Novak when I hit that serve,” said Hewitt. “I was just thinking about trying to get out of an awkward situation. So, you know, obviously I went for it and it paid off at the time.  I served pretty well in that last game.”

“Even the match points I had, I made my first serves. As I said, he's got a long wingspan out there.  Even when you hit a good first serve, he's able somehow to get a return back in play and he would float it deep, then you're sort of back in the point with him. That was obviously a key serve to come up with that good one.”
