Caroline Wozniacki is set for a tricky fourth round showdown against Jelena Jankovic at the 2012 Australian OpenYou can watch and bet on Wozniacki v Jankovic live for free at bet365 > live tennisCaroline Wozniacki produced an efficient display on Friday to oust Monica Niculescu 6-2, 6-2 in the third round of the Australian Open, and she now faces a difficult contest against Jelena Jankovic. The world No. 1 was in the driving seat throughout the match against Niculescu, and her place in round four never seemed to be in doubt.
“She got a lot of balls back,” commented Wozniacki after her win. “With her slice forehand, it was tough to finish out the point sometimes. But I felt like I was in control.” When asked about retaining her status as the world No. 1, and her lack of a slam title, the Dane responded by saying that she’s not concerned.
“To be honest, I've proven myself for the last two years,” stated Wozniacki. “I've finished No. 1 twice in a row. For me, the most important thing is to keep improving. If I do that, I know I can play on a very high level. If you win matches in tournaments, then the ranking will be there automatically.”
Wozniacki will need to turn in a big performance against Jankovic in order to stand a chance of silencing her critics. Her reign at the top of the rankings has been impressively long-lasting, but sadly, until she wins a slam title, she’s likely to be derided by a number of pundits.
