This year’s Australian Open promises to be a classic, following a superb tennis season in 2011. In the men’s draw, Novak Djokovic will be aiming to recreate last year’s incredible performances, whilst Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray will be eager to re-assert themselves as threats to the No. 1 ranking spot. Roger Federer, if his back injury subsides, will also be a serious contender here.

There will be a first class supporting cast in attendance, including the powerful Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, as well as David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych and Mardy Fish. Any of these players could win this event if they’re at their best. On top of this, Milos Raonic will be back following a breakthrough year. The Canadian’s huge serve took everybody by surprise here last time around, and he’s in great form right now.

In the women’s draw we can expect similar excitement. Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters are all hopeful of a full recovery from injury in time for the start of the main draw, whilst Caroline Wozniacki and Victoria Azarenka will be giving it their all in their respective bids to win a maiden slam title.

2011 WTA player of the year Petra Kvitova will also be worth keeping an eye on following an explosive finish to the 2011 season. Kvitova could well be the world No. 1 heading into this event, depending on results in Sydney. Na Li, last year’s runner-up, could possibly go the distance here as well. Other big names such as Vera Zvonareva, Agnieszka Radwanska and home favourite Samantha Stosur shouldn’t be overlooked either.

All of the action from Melbourne will be live streamed at Bet365. With this year’s tournament poised to be one of biggest sporting events in recent years, tennis fans will not want to miss out on the coverage.
