Day Eight at the Australian Open could see the end of Australia's hopes with Novak Djokovic playing Lleyton Hewitt.

Roger Federer crushed Bernard Tomic's dreams on Sunday night and top seed Djokovic is overwhelming favourite to end Hewitt's defiant run. The Aussie has defied the odds as ever at his 16th Australian Open but Djokovic is playing so well, it's hard to see how Hewitt can hurt him.

But earlier in the day there's plenty of intriguing women's matches on Rod Laver Arena beginning with Petra Kvitova against 2008 finalist Ana Ivanovic. The Serbian glamour girl is looking more like the player who once soared to number one in the world but Kvitova may just have a bit too much firepower.

A week ago, no one was quite sure how long Serena Williams would last in the tournament after an injury hit build-up. Why did we question her ? Serena has been rampant throughout the first week and after beating Greta Arn 6-1, 6-1 on Saturday, there's not doubt that she's a title contender although hard hitting Russian Ekaterina Makarova has a bit of a giant-killing reputation.

And 2008 champion Maria Sharapova faces another leggy blonde with raking groundstrokes in Sabine Lisicki. The German is rapidly improving so don't be surprised if she sends Sharapova crashing out.
