Ana Ivanovic ended the 2011 season with a bang, playing well in a number of tournaments and winning the season ending Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions. The Serb, a former world No. 1, isn’t one of the favourites to win this year’s Australian Open, but she should be capable of making it through to week two. Her first matchup will be against Lourdes Dominguez Lino.

Ivanovic’s preparations haven’t gone entirely to plan though. She was beaten in Sydney in round one last week, which may affect her morale ahead of the action in Melbourne. Speaking at the time, Ivanovic revealed that she would simply make the most of the opportunity to get more practise in at Melbourne Park.

“It gives me plenty of time to work on a few things and tune up a few things, but I feel my game is there,” commented the Serb last week. “It's still going to be good to have a few days to work. I had a good offseason and I just want to try and keep at it.”

Ivanovic is expected to cruise past Dominguez Lino on Tuesday, but she’ll need to show a marked improvement on her last outing in Sydney. She’s capable of beating anyone on her day, but hasn’t quite managed to play consistently at the top of her game in recent years.
