Novak Djokovic looks to seal a semi-final place when he takes on David Ferrer on Wednesday night.
Djokovic will need to improve drastically after an unconvincing performances against Tomas Berdych on Monday night. Djokovic did not appear to be troubled by his shoulder but he was pushed close to the wire by the Czech who held match point before losing 3-6, 6-3, 7-6.
"It was the toughest match probably since the US Open," Djokovic admitted. "I mean, I wasn't very satisfied with my performance tonight. I know I wasn't playing on top of my game. But a win is a win in the end. I knew that my opponent tonight is an unpredictable player, who has a powerful groundstrokes and great serve. If he's on, if he feels the ball well, it's difficult to compete with him. That's what happened. I think he made pressure, a lot of pressure, on my serve, especially the second serve. He was stepping in. I went back. I was too passive."
Ferrer eventually ended Andy Murray's participation, defeating the injured Brit 6-4, 7-5, a loss which prompted Murray to pull out of the event on Tuesday afternoon.
Ferrer finished runner-up at the Tour Finals back in 2007 and he has a very good shot at making the last four here. The slower surface at the O2 Arena is definitely helping his chances and Djokovic will need to step up to extend his 6-4 head-to-head advantage.
