Del Potro was delighted with a crushing 6-2, 6-3, 6-0 win over Yen-Hsun Lu and the former US Open champion is limbering up nicely for a potential quarter-final clash with Roger Federer.
"I'm feeling really well. I played I think the best match of the year," Del Potro told the press in his trademark broken English. "Only four matches in this year, but I was really confidence with my forehand every part of the match. I served much better than the last two matches, and my game is still improving. So it's a good signal for the next round."
However the free-hitting Kohlschreiber is enjoying his best Grand Slam since the French Open three years ago. The German began the tournament with a battling five set win over Juan Monaco, an impressive effort considering the often oppressive heat which hits the tournament during the afternoon sessions. He's since taken full advantage of Mardy Fish's shock defeat, ousting Fish's conqueror Alejandro Falla in straight sets.
Kohlschreiber is a great mover and has a fantastic single-handed backhand. He's not the best of returners so he'll have to try and find a way to tame the deadly Del Potro serve and get the 6'6 Argentine on the run.
He's never managed it in the past although they've had plenty of close battles. Del Potro has won all four, winning 7-6(3), 7-6(7) in Indian Wells last March and then 6-7(3), 6-4, 7-5 in Miami a few weeks later.
Prediction: Del Potro in four.
