Djokovic leads 3-2 on the head-to-heads between the two. Youzhny beat the Serb twice in 2007 during his hot streak of form in the European indoor season, one of those wins coming in the Rotterdam semi-finals. However Djokovic has comfortably won their two most recent matches, 7-6, 6-3 in the Beijing Olympics and 6-3, 6-4 in last summer's Rogers Cup.
Youzhny had an inauspicious start to the year but he is most at home indoors and he has hit form during this tournament after coming back from the brink to defeat Andrey Golubev 1-6, 7-6, 7-6 in the first round. In yesterday's quarter-finals he outplayed Gael Monfils convincingly in the final two sets to win 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.
However Djokovic should prove too consistent for the Russian. Youzhny is renowned for mixing in hot streaks where he is nigh unplayable with absolute rubbish. Djokovic looked very good in the early rounds and he will be benefiting from a day's rest while Youzhny had to go the distance against Monfils last night.
