Andy Roddick is in second round action in Memphis tonight against Yen-Hsun Lu.

Roddick came dangerously close to a shock first round exit, requiring a final set tiebreak to defeat James Blake 6-3, 4-6, 7-6. It was a titantic struggle between two players who contested the final here eight years ago. Roddick served for the match at 5-4 in the third but Blake broke back before paying the price for some loose shot-making in the tiebreak.

Lu also had a three set struggle, going down 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to wildcard Robby Ginepri.
Roddick will be wary and well aware that Lu gave Fernando Verdasco a tough battle in San Jose last week.

He beat Lu in the quarter-finals of this tournament three years ago but it was a tight one – 6-4, 7-6.
