Roger Federer faces a player he beat twice in 2009.
Federer looked in supreme form as he breezed through his first round match on Tuesday, crushing Christophe Rochus 6-1, 6-2. Federer fired 12 aces and was striking the ball brilliantly from the back on the court with no less than 47 winners flowing from his racket.
Afterwards Federer declared himself very happy with his start, “It was good to get on a roll. My movement was explosive,” he said.
He now plays the Russian Evgeny Korolev who beat Martin Vassallo Arguello 6-2, 6-3. However Korolev was outplayed twice by Federer in 2009, 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 at the Australian Open and then 6-2, 6-3 in Basel so he will not be expected to cause too many problems.
