Serra is the eighth seed and eased past Santiago Ventura 6-4, 6-3 in the first round.
Robert has made rapid progress through the rankings in the past twelve months. A year ago he was competing in low level futures but has worked his way onto the main tour and made an ATP final in February.
He could be a handful having won a challenger on the Moroccan clay earlier in the year. His unorthodox game can be difficult to deal with on the red dirt.
He scraped past Austrian veteran Stefan Koubek 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 earlier this week, a better win than it looked as Koubek has won ATP titles in the past on clay.
