Victoria Azarenka claimed the world number one spot in stunning fashion at the start of 2012 and she'll be favourite to win a third Miami Masters title this month.
Azarenka realised a lifelong dream when she claimed the Australian Open title and few could argue that the Belarussian deserved it after brilliant wins over Kim Clijsters and Maria Sharapova.
There may well have been sighs of relief among the bigwigs at the WTA as finally women's tennis has a world number one who's seen to be credible by the wider sporting public.
Azarenka's potential has long been known especially after she announced herself as a serious contender for major titles in 2009, beating Sam Stosur and Serena Williams to win the Miami Masters for the first time.
She was unstoppable in Miami once again last year, sweeping aside Clijsters, Sharapova and Vera Zvonareva without dropping a set to claim another prestigious crown.
And if she's at her best then you can't look past her, especially on hard courts. Petra Kvitova has the power to trouble anyone but she's still a little inconsistent on the medium paced cement while Azarenka appears to have the edge of Clijsters and Sharapova in Miami.
