The German has a 2-0 head to head record against Melzer, following straight set wins in Monaco in 2010, and the Miami Masters last season. The world No. 33 might have to rethink his game plan to get the better of Petzschner this time around.
This will be an exciting clash, and it’s one that could easily swing either way. Melzer will surely be focused on making this season a good one, though Petzschner will have his sights on the top fifty, and has every reason to be motivated as well. This showdown should be one of the stand-out matches from the first round.
