Juan Martin Del Potro has a stiff test in Thursday's quarter-finals in Sydney against Marcos Baghdatis.
Baghdatis don't forget, did make the 2006 Australian Open final and is always a dangerous customer on his day. He hasn't been at his best over the past couple of weeks but he's been getting the wins in the early rounds, seeing off the last Aussie hope in Sydney in Matthew Ebden, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(3) on Wednesday.
"Today was not the greatest match I've played, but very happy because I might get this windy conditions in Melbourne. It's nice to feel bad in these conditions and fight through," he said.
Del Potro was also satisfied to get the win in testing conditions on day three of the Apia International, defeating the experienced Pole Lukasz Kubot 6-4, 6-2, saving all three of the break points he faced.
"[They were] really tough conditions for both of us," the top seed admitted afterwards. "But I was just focussed on my serve in the first set, and then tried to take a little opportunity, because it was really difficult to play long rallies, to feel the ball like I wanted."
Baghdatis upset Del Potro 6-1, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 at last year's Australian Open and he'll put up a strong fight again but look for Del Potro to take this in three.
