Zeballos was able to take the second set to a tie-breaker, but Chela kept a cool head to get the contest finished. The second seed will now be up against Joao Souza in the last eight.
Souza has made a decent start here. He began by dismissing eighth seed Filippo Volandri in a lengthy three setter. Volandri arguably played the better tennis, but Souza still did well to hang on when the odds were stacked against him. The Brazilian then beat Chilean legend Fernando Gonzalez in straight sets in round two.
Chela and Souza have only met once previously, and this was at a Challenger Tour event in Colombia. Chela won the clay court matchup after three close sets. The Argentine will be looking to find a way past Souza’s defence, with the aim of not being pushed to a third set this time around.
