Blake may no longer be a big draw in men's tennis but he's still hugely popular with American fans who love his explosive, uncompromising style. The former world number four has shown huge commitment to force his way back into the top 100 over the past year despite several serious injuries.

At the age of 32 Blake is coming to terms with the fact that he's always going to be in some sort of discomfort when he steps out on court. "My knee hasn't been that far off, but it's been far enough off that it's affected me," the American said ruefully in Atlanta last week. "When that starts getting better, my shoulder starts giving me problems, and it makes me realize I'm not 20 anymore."

In Atlanta Blake showed that on his day he can still be a force to be reckoned with, taking out young hotshot Ryan Harrison in round one before being outgunned by Matthew Ebden in round two. The LA organisers will be hoping that he can go deep this week and they'll be loving it if he matches his 2007 run to the final.

He should beat Kamke who has only won three matches on the main tour this season.
