Tommy Robredo will be in attendance here to attempt to retain the title that he won in 2011. The former world No. 5 had to produce a gritty fightback against Santiago Giraldo in last year’s final, and there’s little doubt that he’ll will be ready for a determined defence.
Giraldo will also be back as the seventh seed, and will surely be eager to go one better than he did last season. Alongside Giraldo, the main contenders for the title here will be Juan Monaco, Juan Ignacio Chela, Thomaz Bellucci, Pablo Andujar, Albert Montanes and Carlos Berlocq.
Monaco is the top seed, and as he bids to close in on the top twenty, will be one to watch. The experienced Chela is also in with a shout. He’s a clay court expert, and an incredibly wily opponent.
