In the first semi-final on Pat Rafter Arena, No. 3 seed Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine takes on No. 2 seed and World No. 12 Gilles Simon of France. Both players are appearing in the semi-finals here for the first time. In their previous meeting, Simon won 64 63 in the quarter-finals of Sydney last year en route to the title. The 23- year-old Dolgopolov is one of the young up-and-coming stars on the ATP World Tour. The Ukrainian finished a year-end best No. 15 last season, captured his maiden ATP World Tour title and advanced to his first Grand Slam quarter-final at the Australian Open. He was one of 10 ATP World Tour first-time winners last season. Simon, a two-time winner on the ATP World Tour last season (Sydney, Hamburg), has finished in the Top 15 in three of the past four years. He ranked a career-high No. 6 on Jan. 5, 2009 and reached a Grand Slam-best quarter-final at the Australian Open in ‘09.

In the second match, top seed and World No. 4 Andy Murray is expected to have new coach Ivan Lendl in his box for the first-time meeting against No. 8 seed and top Aussie Bernard Tomic, who is making his ATP World Tour semi-final debut. Murray, who has been runner-up at the Australian Open the past two years, is trying to capture his first career title Down Under. He is coming off his fourth consecutive No. 4 finish last season and five ATP World Tour titles, which was second to Novak Djokovic (10). Tomic, who is ranked No. 42 at 19 years, 2 months, is the youngest player in the Top 50 South African Airways ATP Rankings. Tomic enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2011, reaching his first Grand Slam quarter-final at Wimbledon (as a qualifier) and posting a pair of Top 10 wins (d. No. 5 Soderling, No. 9 Fish). Last year he came into Brisbane ranked No. 208. He will break the Top 40 on Monday, around No. 37 thus far, and if he reaches the final, will move to around No. 35, and if he wins the title, around No. 32.
