Albert Montanes will take on Rogerio Dutra Silva in the second round of the ATP Vina Del Mar OpenYou can watch and bet on Montanes v Dutra Silva live for free at bet365 > live tennisAlbert Montanes is the fifth seed in this week’s ATP Vina Del Mar Open, and he’ll be hoping to climb back up the rankings with a good run here. The Spaniard was ranked No. 22 in the world back in the August of 2010, but has since fallen out of the top fifty. He may well be in the twilight of his career, but Montanes seems to have enough in him to get back in the top fifty and stay there for the rest of the season.
A 1-2 match record for the 2012 season doesn’t suggest that he’s going to be playing with the utmost confidence here, but at least his win was a solid one. He got past his compatriot, qualifier Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo, in round one in straight sets. He’ll face Rogerio Dutra Silva, another qualifier, in round two.
Dutra Silva is 28 years-old, but he only turned pro in 2010. Early performances at ATP level have been fairly encouraging for the Brazilian, and he’ll be pleased with a second round showing in Vina Del Mar. It had looked like he’d be dumped out of the competition when he was bagelled in the first set of his first round meeting with Maximo Gonzalez, but he clawed his way back into the contest to win 0-6, 7-6(3), 6-3.
Montanes will have to be wary of another gutsy showing from Dutra Silva, but this should be his match to lose. A straight sets victory for the world No 53 seems a probable outcome.
