The ATP Sao Paulo Open will be back in 2013, and we can anticipate a great week of tennis on the second stop of the Latin American swing. There is usually a very strong showing from the best dirtballers from South America, and a few of the best from the Mediterranean thrown into the draw as well, all of which makes for an exciting tournament.

In 2012 Nicolas Almagro completed a successful title defence with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Italian veteran Filippo Volandri. The final proved to be a real nail-biter, with the experienced Volandri doing everything within his power to win his first ATP title in over six years. Although Volandri came close, it was the world No. 11 who took home the spoils.

The field in 2012 also contained players such as Gilles Simon, Fernando Verdasco, Thomaz Bellucci, David Nalbandian and Juan Carlos Ferrero. The lineup is likely to be of a similar strength in 2013, so fans of clay court tennis have every reason to be looking forward to the return of the Brasil Open.
