As far as team events are concerned in men’s tennis, only the Davis Cup is bigger than the World Team Cup, which takes place in Dusseldorf, Germany. The event takes the eight nations whose top two players have the combined highest ATP rankings, and pits them against each other for a week in May.

The event began in 1978, with Spain emerging as the inaugural champions. Since then, the honours have been mostly divided between Spain, the United States, Argentina, Sweden and Germany. Other winners include Serbia, Croatia, Chile, Australia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, West Germany, Czechoslovakia and France.

This tends to be a very well supported event, with annual crowds in the regions of 75,000. It is reportedly televised in over 160 countries.
